Post-Offer Applicant Evaluations


These PERF or non-PERF evaluations assess the medical condition of an entering employee and evaluate the individual's ability to safely perform the prescribed duties as set forth by departmental and professional standards. Our services are sensitive to the legal requirements of medical testing, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Wellness Examinations

 

 

These examinations assess the medical condition of existing employees and are packaged to simplify your decision regarding the services recommended for your department. Our services are sensitive to the legal requirements of medical testing, including the Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, they are consistent with PERF and accreditation agency guidelines, and follow the standards set forth by such organizations as the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Evaluations

These fire department evaluations provide a specific focus on the specialty of the firefighter.

Medical exam includes:

  • a complete physical
  • chest X-ray
  • urine drug screen
  • TB skin test
  • 12-lead EKG
  • hearing and vision testing
  • lung function testing

Blood work includes:

  • Complete blood count
  • blood chemistries
  • liver functions
  • alkaline phosphates
  • total protein
  • albumin
  • bilirubin
Pre-Placement Examinations This examination is performed after a person has been offered a job or a new position within the Department (e.g. special teams, SWAT, SCUBA, K-9, Bomb, Mounted Patrol, or Firing Range). It develops a baseline for medical surveillance. The physical exam provides specific attention to the job duties and a written opinion is made regarding the person's suitability for performing the job.


Medical Surveillance Examinations This examination is designed to prevent work-related illnesses through early recognition of problems. It also evaluates the employee's ongoing ability to handle position demands and identifies the employee at risk for work-related health problems.

Fit-for-Duty Medical Evaluations









Fit-for-Duty Psychological Evaluations

The medical evaluation is performed on employees who have a medical release from their personal physician or workers' compensation physician. It determines an individual's ability to perform their duties. It includes a physical exam and corroboration of medical history, a review of their diagnosis and history with a specific focus on their work in public safety, and a comprehensive report on outcomes with recommendations.

The psychological evaluation differs depending upon the complexity of the case. It may include administration and scoring of appropriate psychological tests, thorough interviews, and a comprehensive report with an overall rating for each evaluation and a follow-up consultation.


Disability Opinions and
Independent Medical Evaluations
This evaluation involves a complete review of past medical history as related to the disability claim and the collection of corroboratory medical records and testing to assist with our disability opinion.

Exit Medical Evaluations This examination is performed on a retiring or terminated employee to medically screen them before departure.

Second Opinions for Work-Related Injuries/Illness



Prompt, quality medical care is essential after an employee sustains a work-related injury or illness. We can evaluate the employee specific to their job and provide a second opinion on the diagnosis.

Other Testing Services

Drug and Alcohol Screening w/Medical Review Officer (MRO) Administration


This NIDA or non-NIDA drug and alcohol screening helps detect chemical dependency problems. MRO services will interpret all drug and alcohol test results.

The client can be referred to our Employee Assistance Program when appropriate.


Diagnostic Testing

A diagnostic testing program can be used as part of a complete employee evaluation including the services below.
  • Diagnostic radiology (Chest X-ray)

  • Diagnostic laboratory services including: Hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis C Virus, HIV, and Prostate Specific Antigen (Prostate cancer blood test)

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) testing
Respiratory Services
  • Spirometry testing - this testing is performed in accordance with procedures recommended by the American Thoracic Society.
  • Respiratory evaluations

Vaccination Services

Vaccinations are performed for the following:

  • Hepatitis A virus (series of 2 injections)
  • Hepatitis B virus (series of 3 injections)
  • Influenza
  • Pneumococcus (pneumonia)
  • Varicella (chicken pox) (series of 2 injections)
  • Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
  • Tetanus
Victims Assistance Services These are court ordered examinations and specimen collections.
