Traveling outside your home country can be an extremely satisfying and rewarding experience. Avoiding illness and staying healthy can greatly enhance that experience. Make sure to take the opportunity to speak with your health care provider about getting up to date on all your "ordinary" vaccinations and to schedule any further vaccines he or she deems appropriate for the areas to which you are venturing.

and Prevention

For those diseases for which no vaccinations are available, it is necessary to take specific measures either with medications and/or behaviors in order to reduce your risk of infection. These measures include taking malaria prophylaxis if advised, using insect repellants, using caution about what food and beverages you consume, and avoiding risky behaviors.
