Make
Good Nutrition a Key Part of Your Program
Good nutrition offers the power of prevention. According to the American
Dietetic Association eating healthfully, exercising regularly and maintaining
a healthy body weight could prevent half a million cancer cases each year.
For public safety professionals, eating healthfully can make a difference
in one's energy level, heart disease risk, and body fat levels. The American
Dietetic Association offers these tips to start eating healthfully:
- aim for five to ten servings of fruits and vegetables each day
- eat frequent mini meals throughout the day to give you sustained energy
all day
- include a daily handful of nuts (i.e. peanuts, cashews, almonds)
to increase levels of good fat and protein in your diet
- choose lean cuts of meat to give you good protein with less fat
- eat a high fiber diet by including whole grain foods like whole grain
bread, whole wheat pasta, and brown rice
