Our Health and Fitness packages are designed to follow the recommendations
and requirements of the National Fire Protection Agency
(NFPA), the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF),
the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), and
other public-safety- focused organizations.
EXERCISE IS THE BEST PREDICTOR OF LONGEVITY
Research has repeatedly shown the need for high levels of aerobic fitness,
muscular endurance and muscular strength to perform effectively and safely
in the public safety field. Therefore, incorporating fitness into the
overall philosophy is a clear decision. A study in the March 14, 2006
issue of the New England Journal of Medicine found that
those with the highest exercise capacities (aerobic fitness levels) had
the lowest death rates or roughly twice the survival rate as those with
the lowest exercise capacities. This was regardless of whether they smoked,
were obese, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
Public Safety Medical Services can evaluate each employee's fitness level
and provide individualized recommendations on how to improve any weaknesses
through an exercise program or other lifestyle changes. We have developed
three different packages:
